August 17, 2006 Board Meeting

The August meeting of the Shenandoah Valley at Battlecreek Homeowners Association was held on 08-17-06 at the home of Julie Harris.  It was called to order at 6:30 P.M. by President, Wes Herzberg and attended by Wes, Tom Emmert, Julie Harris, Kathie Wade and Mike Wooten.  Bill Richards was unable to attend due to business.  Mike Hight was unable to attend and advised the board that his schedule had not accommodated his presence and that he was willing to resign his position on the board.  The board decided to accept that resignation and to pursue replacement.  Julie made a motion that the April minutes be approved, Mike seconded and all approved.

 Old Business

The July 4 parade was a great success and it was recommended that it be continued next year.  Thanks are given to the Social Chairman, Dee Farlow for a tremendous job.   Ken Brenkman has volunteered to assist with the newsletter.  The board extends condolences to Ken for the loss of his wife Nancy.  A plant was sent to the services.

Thanks were given to Mike for the landscape efforts in late May at the 145th street entrance which included necessary re-building of the sprinkler systems.  Mike is attending to the pond fountains which require pump and chemical maintenance.  Kathie made a motion to add an additional $300 to the entrance landscaping cost, Julie seconded and all approved.  Julie then made a motion for $200 to the pond maintenance, Kathie seconded and all approved.  Kathie will be in touch with an arborist regarding tree maintenance at the 145th street entrance on the two oaks and the possible use of soil injected growth retardants.  Curt Temple is helping with the lighting function at this entrance.  Kathie has been in contact with the Broken Arrow Director of Parks and Recreation.  She is pursuing information for a sign on Oak welcoming to Shenandoah Valley.

 New Business

An above ground pool which is in violation of the covenants has been reported.  Contact is being made requesting removal of same.  Legal counsel will be contacted as necessary to pursue remedies if the pool is not removed.  There was a discussion of a homeowner’s directory and the option to send a card for response with the annual dues statement.  Kathie has had contact with the Park Department and was advised that the land around ponds is owned by homeowners. The island areas are to be maintained by the SVHOA.  It was also recommended that the 4 foot area between the hayfield and landscaped entrance area be maintained.  There was some discussion concerning interest of the Estates of Shenandoah Valley joining this association and the response at this time is to not include them.  Mike made a motion to approve $72.11 for the plant for Nancy Brenkman’s service, and to establish a $300 benevolence fund for approval by board members, Tom Seconded and all approved.  Kathie mad a motion to approve $200 for attorney fee expenditures, seconded by Julie with unanimous approval.

The September meeting will be held on 09-25-06 at the home of Mike Wooten.  The meeting was adjourned.

 Tom Emmert, Secretary
