April 20, 2006 Board Meeting The April meeting of the Shenandoah Valley at Battle Creek Homeowners Association was held on 04-20-06 at 7:00 P.M. at the home of Kathie Wade. In attendance were Wes Herzberg, Tom Emmert, Julie Harris, Bill Richards, Kathie Wade, and Mike Wooten. Mike Hight was absent and is to be contacted regarding his intentions for the board. Wes called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. Two corrections were made to the 03-28-06 meeting minutes, Julie made a motion that they be accepted, seconded by Kathie and unanimously approved. Wes requested that the minutes be forwarded to Don Guy, webmaster for posting to the web site. Bill Richards then presented the March 06 financial report and identified that there were only 4 or 5 unpaid homeowner’s dues and related that to new ownerships. 145th Street Entrance: Mike gave a landscape report recommending the use of bright colors such as yellow, red, and orange. He also suggested variation in textures and plants that will survive western exposure. Mike will obtain estimates of cost and anticipates approximately $500 for each side. Kathie reported that approximately $70 of the previously approved $500 had been spent and will present an itemized list. Julie made a motion that a second $500 be approved for entrance landscaping, Bill seconded and all approved. Mike also reported that he had talked to one vendor regarding estimates for irrigating the islands and is awaiting their response. Kathie turned over the Landscape Chairmanship to Mike who accepted. Kathie will join Julie on the covenants committee. E-mail was received from the attorney with the recommendation that penalty for covenant violations was not a viable option. It was recommended that attorney letterhead be used to contact and inform violations. It was further suggested that covenant letters be sent to builders and buyers prior to closings, and to request elevation and color information. Bill agreed to serve on the covenants committee and to contact Shaw Homes to discuss dues collection and chimney caps. It was decided not to pursue the issue of chimney masonry changes. Welcome packets were discussed and would include items from the police department, area merchants. The block captain chair will determine content of the packets. Don Guy declined the position of Block Captain. Donna Leonard will be contacted to determine if she has interest in this position. The Battle Creek additions garage sale will be on Saturday, May 20 from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Flyers will be distributed. The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
